Mehmed Selaheddin

Mehmed Selaheddin (6 August 1861 – 29 April 1915) was the only son of Sultan Mehmed Murad V, 33rd Sovereign of the House of Osman, and his second wife Reftarıdil Kadınefendi. He educated privately and became 3rd Velihad from 13 August 1909 and Major-General of the Imperial Ottoman Army. He received the Collar of the Hanedan-ı-Ali-Osman and the Nişan-ı-Ali-Imtiyaz.
==Biography==
Mehmed Selaheddin spent most of his life in enforced confinement in Çırağan Palace, Ortaköy in İstanbul. The Palace served as an enforced residence to his father Sultan Murad V, who had been deposed in 1876 and replaced by his brother, Sultan Abdülhamid II. The restrictions imposed on the former Sultan extended to his entire family, and were not lifted until his death in 1904. During this time Prince (Şehzade) Mehmed Selaheddin Efendi wrote a diary which give an account of the daily life of the imprisoned members of Sultan Murad V's immediate family and their retinue.
He died at the age of 53 at Feneryolu Palace, Üsküdar on 29 April 1915 and was buried in Şehzade Kemaleddin Mausoleum, Yahya Efendi.
